Success Is in the List

I recently picked up a book from my book-shelf called "How to Read a Person like a Book", and started reading it again. Like many of my books I've had it a long-time, I seldom throw books out. Reading it reminded me of my many years in sales when one looked for peoples buying signals and reactions whilst talking to them.
I loved my 40 or so years spent in various sales positions. The book made me think of the difference in face to face selling and internet marketing, where you don't know the impact of you marketing until the orders come in or don't. Or how people are responding to your emails, sales letters etc. until they purchase.
It takes longer, but you still have to build a rapport with your customers, which may take a sequence of emails, which is why it is important to build a list of people who like your offers, the way you communicate with them etc. You may have a following on YouTube, or in forums, or maybe you write ezines but you also need to send out emails with an auto-responder, and build a list. People have to decide to trust and like you before they consider if they like your products.
If you try to sell to complete strangers and don't build a list you are depending on impulse-buys which are much harder to achieve and your advertising will bring in a few of these anyway.
So look after your customers and prospects, treat them well and build a solid list of loyal followers, if you really want to grow your business.
If you are looking for a simple way to begin online, affiliate marketing could be the answer. If you choose to work with a mentor this will make your start-up much easier as you will have access to excellent products created or sourced for you. However do check out what is provided and the quality, before you sign up to an affiliate program.
Other things that may be provided are sales pages, email templates, banners and training in techniques and marketing. Be sure you like what is being offered.
Affiliate programs cover most niches and if you make a Google search you will find a good selection and a program you like. When choosing your niche check magazine racks and book-stores for suggestions, if there is plenty of interest I your chosen topic you could be onto a winner. Niches that are popular are weight loss, hobbies and sports. Start part-time and retain you current income initially, as your new hobby business won't grow overnight. Once your business is established you can work anywhere with just a laptop and internet connection. Good luck with your venture.
