New Website! What do we think of it?

We have a brand new website that has taken a whole bunch of hours to put together. Well over 100 of them in fact although to be fair, some of that was spent sleeping. Not much though.

Anyway, it's here now, all fresh and shiny and has a lot of old (but seldom utilised) features from the old site that was tied into the Complete gamer main site. Speaking of that, it's also being redesigned, which is what prompted the redesign of the new stand alone Eve Radio website. It's all rather complicated so I'm not going to discuss the specifics - suffice to say this was the best course of action considering a lot of different variables. Anyway, you'l lsee the new Complete gamer site as it was always intended to be early in 2011. Hopefully.

Anyway, back on topic.

The new website has all sorts of shiny things. The upgraded community interface has many bells and whistles that we hope you'll take full advantage of. If not, shame on you. It wasn't easy bolting this all together and making it work. Utilise it or I'll consider you ungreatful and deserving of scorn.

Scorrrrrrrrrrrn I say!

Other than the social stuff (of which there is far too much to mention - go look for yourselves), we've added Poker tables to give you all something extra to do while listening to our stream. It's rather excellent and in the future could be used to gamble with in game ISK. For now, every new site user gets a set initial pool of funds to play with on our starter tables. As time goes on we will add more advanced tables with higher minimum stakes and less time to make your play. We're even looking at intergrating the websites user point system to make it easier to transition from playing with fake money to in game fake money/ISK. More on that as it comes.

Several of the core radio systems have been given a big overhaul in the last couple of months. Many were already updated on the old site and some were not activated until the new site was launched. Even more are still awaiting activation - you'll notice them when they get switched on.

The new website is also a lot, lot faster than the previous incarnation and is about as error free at launch as we can get. I'll be honest, a lot of the previous problems on the old site were down to me adding things that casued conflicts that bore no real benefit to the user. Sorry about that. THIS TIME THINGS ARE DIFFERENT!

For one, Gaz threatened me with all sorts of physical harm if I broke too many things or made him work too hard. Normally I'm not one to be intimidated by a subordinate but he's recently gotten himself blue hair - which makes him some sort of Imp like devil creature not to be messed with, so I have restrained myself. However, should this change (That or my understanding of the core technologies improve) we will again add really shiny things that *shouldn't* break the website. Much.

Anyway, as it stands it's FAST, PRETTY(ish), FUNCTIONAL and hopefully a vibrant HUB of Eve Online related activity. It's got all the EO news, all the social functionality of Facebook and has lots of good radio to boot.

On the old site, we saw several hundred guest users on the website at any one time but hardly any registered members. This wasn't due to the fact nobody registered - on the contrary, we have several thousand registered users - the issue was the old site was too slow and clunky and didn't really offer anything beyond a radio interface. This time it's much, much more worth while logging in. Not only can you quickly and easily see what's going on with your friends and radio fellows, you can actively participate in this community without running into any stumbling blocks that the previous site had.

And for the lazy people, we offer a Facebook login option. It's nice and simple, you connect with our FaceBook connect login and it will automatically create a user account for you on the Eve Radio website. Not only that, your status updates on the site can be replicated on your Facebook account, so you can kill two birds with a single shiny stone.

Finally, the Eve Radio website works pretty well in game. Alas, CCP has their in game browser limited so it won't allow the playback of the radio stream or display of the videos BUT you can read all the news, browse the discussion groups and play the poker tables from the comfort of in game. The only you need to do to take advantage of it fully in game is have a site created user account as the Facebook login will not allow you to connect to the site while in game.

Anyhoo, that's the basics dealt with. Theres some much more going on in the background I haven't even begun to touch on and theres going to be a whole lot more added in the near future. For now, enjoy the new site, take advantage of it's features and have fun with it.

I'm a HUGE fan. I like the community bits. This coupled with FB, Twitter, and the other stuff will make it easy for folks to follow their fave DJ's.

Good show, sir!
