  • Diaego replied to the topic Re: Paypal can't process my request in the forums.
    Hello,

I'm afraid there's little we can do about this situation at the moment. PayPal require that you have a credit card on file in order to create the subscription. As long as you have a credit card on file with PayPal, you should have no problem. As others have said, a pre-paid Mastercard is an option.

Unfortunately, we are not aware of any cost effective solution in order to implement a separate payment system for our German members. We are, of course, happy to take suggestions if you are aware of anything - but they do need to be compatible with our current billing system (it wouldn't be cost effective to pay £1,000's to custom code a solution!).

    Kind regards,

    Ross / "Diaego"

    Hi Hideo,

We have instant bank transfers here in the UK too. However, unless we open a bank account in Germany, it would require you to do an International bank transfer to our UK account. This is fraught with difficulties and hidden charges. You'd actually need to a request a Sterling transfer, for which you'll likely be charged and the transaction won't be instant. Because of the complexities of International bank transfers to those not used to them (and the terms like BIC, IBAN and SWIFT codes), potential hidden charges and then the manual work of matching up payments to accounts, it is for these reasons we can't offer such a service. When it comes down to it, we would much rather put the time, effort and money in to EVE-Radio rather than accepting money.

With regards to creating a 2-year subscription - this would require a significant re-write of our billing software (as it does not allow users to signup for a time period based on their payment option). We'd need to enforce this, otherwise people could select 'bank transfer' and then 'monthly billing'. So we'd need to write code that would display just a 2-year recurring period if bank transfer is selected. We use commercial billing software, which, if we customise to that extent, would make it 'non-standard'. This would restrict our ability to update the software, incurring significant costs. Because we handle billing data, our software and servers need to maintain PCI DSS compliance. As we would be using non-standard code, we'd need to submit the code for testing, again incurring even more expense.

Unfortunately, these options are all just too cost prohibitive to consider. We'd love to be able to provide payment options to suit everyone, but for a very small independent organisation such as ours, that just isn;t possible to do.

    Kind regards,

    Ross / "Diaego"

    Hi Hideo,

I'm not sure what workaround you'd suggest. The only other ways I can think of for someone who doesn't have a credit or even a debit card would be to pay by cheque or bank transfer. Unfortunately, both of these methods would require some pretty intensive manual processing (particularly to accept on a monthly basis) on our part. Our margins are already extremely low and the processing time involved in accepting manual payments would cancel this out completely. As a result, it just isn't cost effective for us to use a manual payment method (without heavily increasing the cost of the subscription, which we are not prepared to do).

Whilst I can understand not wishing to have a credit card, in the UK at least, debit cards are standard and common place and are free to obtain. It is also possible in both the UK and US to own a 'pre-paid' credit card. Essentially a top-up card that will allow you to make online purchases (so no actual 'credit' is involved and it doesn't require a credit-check). As a result, we find that most people are in a position to signup using a credit/debit card/PayPal in some way or another.

I'm sorry this probably isn't the result you're looking for, but I hope that clarifies why we only accept a limited number of payment methods.

    Hello,

I think I know what the problem is here. We recently had to upgrade our PayPal to support a different type of transaction and it seems to have resulted in a change to the way the IPN system works. The PayPal IPN is how we receive notifications from PayPal that a payment has been received successfully. Rest assured, your donation hasn't been lost, it just hasn't updated the donate-o-meter. We're investigating and hope to have this fixed soon.

Thanks for your donation and support!

  • Diaego replied to the topic Re: Drop Paypal Requirement for Premium Membership!! in the forums.
Gaz has basically answered the question.

To give you a bit more background - anyone that holds a valid debit or credit card worldwide can signup for a Premium Supporter account. What I'm about to say sounds harsh, but hear me out.... You are basically asking us to spend thousands of pounds investing in our own merchant processing system because you forgot your PayPal password and don't want to setup a new PayPal account or verify your account via fax / email.

If we set up our own payments system (i.e accept credit cards directly on our site over sending you to PayPal), we have to meet a multitude of industry standard security requirements (google PCI DSS and you'll see what I'm talking about). We take security seriously, whilst some organisations may take the easy option of setting up credit card processing on their web-site without meeting PCI DSS requirements - we absolutely will not. Therefore, to ensure the security of credit card details, we use PayPal to process these securely on our behalf. In addition, this also provides EVE-Radio with a certain amount of protection against fraudulent transactions.

Therefore, on balance, we think PayPal is a good thing, both for us and our listeners. I'm sorry you are not prepared to signup for a new PayPal account but, taking in to account the above, we hope you can understand why this is a necessary step.

    Hi Xafion,

To answer your questions in order:-

    1. I'm afraid there isn't a full list of songs played during a show. We do display a 'now playing' on our web-site. However, if a DJ is doing live mixing, etc, this information isn't always available.

    2. Unfortunately the on-demand service does not support skip/forward/rewind due to licensing restrictions. The difference with Premium Rewind is that it offers 30 days of shows.

    3. More and more shows are becoming HQ enabled. Our main restriction is to do with our DJ's broadband connections; not all DJ's have the required upload bandwidth on their internet connections, which means they can only broadcast in normal quality to ensure a reliable transmission to our servers. However, all new DJ's must meet strict criteria and have the required upload for HQ broadcasts. Consequently, the number of HQ shows will only increase.

I hope that answers your questions!

  • Diaego replied to the topic Re: Double Donations in the forums.
    Hi Corrak,

I've been looking in to this for you. Sorry it has taken a little while, PayPal reporting tools are less than helpful if you want to go back further than 90 days.

I think I've figured out what has happened. It looks like you did signup for two subscriptions. You originally signed up on 17 June 2011, but then you created another subscription on 20 August. This could be because your credit card expired so you created a new subscription (which would update your PayPal details, including your old subscription). Either way, on 20th August, you created another subscription to Premium, which is why you have been 'double billed'.

Looking at your account history, you've made 5 duplicate payments under the additional subscription. Unfortunately, PayPal will only allow us to refund transactions up to 90 days old. Therefore, I have refunded 4 of the 5 overpayments. Unfortunately, the first payment was made over 90 days ago and I am unable to refund it.

I will also email you directly with the details.

I hope this helps to resolve your query.

    Thanks theone85ca.

That's odd, as everything appears to fairly normal there.

Could you go to speedtest.gamingradio.net and run the speed test on there. That's a direct speed test to our servers. Please post your download and upload speeds.

    Thanks
