New Jukebox Requests System

Eve Radio News

So one of the things we have been putting off doing for, well, around 8 years is updating the rather primitive jukebox requests system.

If you've ever used it you will know what I mean. It's ugly, unweildly and has a tendancy to not find anything you actually want via the search mechanism which results in frustration and random jukebox trolling. Enough is enough I say!

So moving on, we're developing and testing out a new requests system on the live site so you guys can get a chance to have a look at it as we attempt to switch away from the nasty old system to something that actually works in our website rather than be bundled up in a wrapper from an external site.

It's got pretty minimal functionality at the moment and doesn't really allow you to do much except to browse, search and request. But it does do that very well.

We will be adding a lot of other functionality that you'll be familiar with on the old requests page as well as adding some wish list items we've always wanted. As an example, we can now ensure that to make a song request you are a logged in member of the website. What's the benefit of this? Well, it enables us to audit abuse of the system and identify people who enjoy trolling us with music.

Rickrollers beware, we will shortly be able to properly identify and shame you.

The only difficulty now is writing customised plugins and hacking around with a variety of the Eve Radio websites applications and making them all play nicely together. No easy feat by any stretch of the imagination but we are at least now on the right track.

Feel free to use it in it's current form and if you notice any bugs or have issues, please report them on the forum so we can have at it with a hammer and stabby thing.
