Farewell To The Funkybacon Show

Eve Radio News

After 9 years and a little over 400 live shows, DJ Funkybacon and friends are having their very last live show tonight from midnight (gmt) on Eve Radio.

Anyone who has ever paid attention to the Eve metagame, followed the CSM or tuned into the radio will know of Funkybacon and his many accomplishments.

From humble beginnings as a stand in afternoon dj he quickly ascended the Eve Radio ranks and took up the mantle of THE premier voice of the growing Eve Online community and wrestled with every Eve related topic under the sun, quickly becoming one of the most successful radio personalities to grace the Eve Radio roster.

He soon found himself at the helm of the most popular discussion show on our network and held sway over hundreds of dedicated listeners during Eve Radio's heyday in a time way before Twitch, Eve focussed news media and even blogging became the norm. In fact, it was his keen nose for breaking news and excellent timing which allowed him to snipe dj slots at a moments notice to bring minute by minute coverage of Eve Onlines essential major events which saw him literally break Eve Radio's broadcast servers in order to spread vital news and drama to record breaking 3400+ simultaneous listeners.

He was broadcasting to an audience of thousands when talking to the major players covering the tumultuous Goonswarm disbandment of BoB.

He thrashed our newly upgraded 1gbps bandwidth servers to death while moderating the savage media frenzy surrounding Monoclegate and the 2011 Summer Of Rage.

He brought the pain to the Mittani and Riverini during a verbal cagefight in the run up to CSM elections that escalated to unfathomably hostile levels (Historical Notice - Riverini lost badly).

He also interviewed Captain Jack, a singing pirate on Americas Got Talent. Really.

... and that's not including the dozens of dev interviews, hundreds of fantastic in game political and gameplay discussions, masses of factional warfare fleet fights and a keen inside look at the CSM process.

There was also hundreds of billions in ISK giveaways. Video coverage of CCP's Christmas Caravans (He got to pilot dev ships - sweet). Streaming live video from Veto's Nashville Summercamp. Eve Idol featuring the legendary musical musings of Curzon Dax and that guy (Sergeant Torrent) getting his chest ripped off his rib cage by a truck as misguided on air entertainment *shudder*  - the list goes on and on.

In short, Funkybacon and his regular panellists throughout the years (Elijah Ghost 07 - present, Larkin Alpha 07 - 12, Doc Neilson 07 - present, The Wingman 06 - 08 and Charlie 12 - present) have worked tirelessly to bring us all a side of Eve that needed to be shown and did so in a way many tried to emulate but none succeeded in doing so.

For sure, the Funkybacon show was one of a kind and we will all miss them when they are gone.

On the plus side - No More Nightwish!

We hope all of you that read this post this evening will set aside some time to tune in and enjoy for one last time Eve Radio's flagship chat show.

Let's send Funky and the gang off in style. Seeya there from midnight (gmt).

When you wanted to make audition for the alliance tournament commentary,

The amount of content and "variety" you created will never be forgotten.
